Natsal-4

The Natsal-4 datasets will be archived under Secure Access in the UK Data Archive in early 2027. Details of how to access data in UKDS’s SecureLab can be found here: [SecureLab link].

Archived Natsal Datasets

All archived Natsal datasets, except the Natsal-3 teaching dataset, are in the process of moving to Controlled Access and are expected to become available again in November 2026. Details of how to access data in UKDS’s SecureLab can be found here: [SecureLab link].

Please note that SecureLab is not available to researchers outside the UK. Researchers based outside the UK who are interested in using Natsal data should contact the Natsal team using this form on the homepage, including a short summary of their proposed research. We can then discuss whether access through UCL’s Data Safe Haven may be possible.

Natsal-3 Teaching Datasets

In addition, Natsal-3 Teaching Datasets are available for download with accompanying documentation (SN 8735 and SN 8786). These are based on a subset of the Natsal-3 dataset in terms of the number of variables included.

Qualitative dataset

Natsal-3 includes a qualitative dataset comprising 126 follow-up interviews with survey participants. The interviews explored five themes: later age at first parenting/involuntary childlessness; sexual dissatisfaction among women in mid-life; men paying for sex; sexual difficulties in older adults; re-partnering and STI risk in mid-life. If you would like access to this dataset for secondary analysis, please contact kirstin.mitchell@glasgow.ac.uk and copy to natsal@ucl.ac.uk. Please note that there may be a charge to cover costs of preparing data for sharing.
